[XeTeX] xetex can't find font

You don't need to run fc-cache as root, actually in any modern Linux
system (no idea about other), you don't need to run it at all,
fontconfig monitors font directories and will updated the cache when
needed.

XeTeX can (and does) use kpathsea (kpsewhich is just a command line tool
using kpathsea).
