[XeTeX] Running footnotes

This seems trivial if using plain (Xe)TeX: Don't use \par etc. in
\insert\footins{...}, but rather \line{} (ending with \hss ...)
I have no idea how to achieve this in (Xe)LaTeX (and I won't recommend
using (Xe)LaTeX either either, as it is too complicated...)
