[XeTeX] Character Variants

I tried that when I first read Bob's question, but neither TexSHop, TeXworks nor aquamacs seem to support variant glyphs. 
I get them nicely in Pages but I can't get by copy-paste. And an export to txt doesn't work either… It would seem Andy found the way.
