[XeTeX] [CJK] gap betw. final dot (。) and footnote reference

Dear list readers,

I have in my (Chinese) file (see attachment) footnotes that come after 
the final dot 。
The gap between the 。 and the footnote reference is huge. The same 
thing occurs when I place quotation marks after the 。dot.

How can I beautify this spot of bother?
