Right, using that flag makes it come out right with the Rupali font.
My misunderstanding lay in thinking that the restriction had to do with
embedding an entire font in the PDF. I incorrectly thought that
xdvipdfmx without the '-E' flag would still embed the glyphs in the
correct positions, on the assumption that this would not constitute a
copyright violation (since you can't, afiak, extract the full font from
such a document).
This restriction (without the -E flag) is new, right? We were able to
use the Rupali font without the flag a couple-three years ago.
How does one look at the license for a font using Linux utilities?
fc-match doesn't seem to output that info, afaict.
