Hi Pablo,
> I have just accidentally discovered that XeLaTeX (and I guess XeTeX) adds a blank space to the PDF creator when generating PDF files.

For comparison, if I look at the pdf files that I get from xelatex
(generated on windows) I get the following:
2 0 obj
<<
/Creator( XeTeX output 2010.01.09:1939)
/Producer(MiKTeX-xdvipdfmx \(0.7.7 svn texlive 15080\))
/CreationDate(D:20100109193908+01'00')
>>
endobj
Examining the hex code shows no spaces, but line feeds (ascii code 10,
hex 0A):
Is it possible that the tool you're using to read the pdf's data does
syntactic replacements? What does a hex editor/viewer say the pdf contains?
