[XeTeX] Dots in graphical filename create problems

xelatex failed with a message
"Undefined control sequence \pdf at filesize".
latex and dvilualatex are ok (it seems to require pdftex or luatex).

It is possible to embed eps with multiple dots
by using temporarily the driver dvipdfm.def or dvipdfmx,def
instead of the default xetex.def:
\usepackage[dvipdfmx]{graphicx}
... ...
