[XeTeX] Converting from arabtex to arabxetex

This seems to work, but keeps hitting snags where I get the error 'illegal
input sequence'. It's triggering on a symbol it's already translated earlier
in the document, so I'm not really sure what's going on.

the \xetexinputencoding just produces a mess, sadly. I tried both cp1256 and
ISO 8859-6 with it.

Are there other ways to convert it to utf8? This is the best lead I've had
so far.
