Howdy,

I don't use 8.3 but I use ascii with no spaces; usually something like  
LongFileName.tex. I remember getting a nasty note back when I  
complained about problems with spaces in file names to the TeXtures  
folks back in the 90's since the Mac could easily handle the spaces.
