[XeTeX] lacking precomposed character

Hi Ross:

My version is the same as yours ...




A nd in the Mac "Character Palette" it doesn't show the schwa. But open 
the font in FontForge, and you'll be able to find it and use something like:

\def\ə{\overstrike{\char"04D9}{¯}}

and it should work.
