[XeTeX] XeTeX-pdfs and Preview.app

Dear list,

a pdf generated with XeLaTeX looses its searchability when I remove  
single pages from it using Leopard's Preview.app (4.1) and save it  
again.
(I learned this the hard way -- I first found out, when the CDs  
containing the file had been pressed...)

Usually this would make me think of a bug in Preview, but strangely  
enough the same procedure neither destroys searchability in pdfs  
generated by Mac OS itself or Adobe Acrobat nor in old-fashined (non- 
Xe)LaTeX files.

Any ideas?
