[XeTeX] new to xetex: need help w/ typesetting Syriac

Actually, the fontspec commands defined by \newfontfamily are
\syriacfont and \arabicfont. \textsyriac is a polyglossia command that
switches to \syriacfont *and* changes directionality using bidi.sty.
