[XeTeX] latin modern questions

Thanks Gareth, this helps a lot at understanding xelatex!
(I expected that xelatex would automatically find font variants for me,
which it apparently does not).

The only problem still is the right margin of the toc not being
obeyed... but this appears to be a latex problem, caused by the large
page numbers; it can be solved by setting \@pnumwidth to size large
enough to hold the numbers, like 2 or 3 em. The default value is 1.55em,
which, here, is only enough for 3 digits.
