[XeTeX] How does xetex handle non-native image files such as eps?

Yes. Jonathan Kew once mentioned that XeTeX does not need external  
programmes to determine the size of the included graphics file. Could  
be he definitely mentioned XeTeX's capability to extract that  
information. Middle of September 2008 in the archive. I then assumed  
that XeTeX was incorrectly scaling JPEG pictures.
