[XeTeX] XeTeX and diacritics

Thanks for this.
But it works fine for me --- that is, no duplication.

I've used both XeTeX v.0996 on a Mac (with both
  dvi2xdv  and  xdvipdfmx --- though cannot see
why there would be any difference)
and (a version of)  XeTeX v.0997  with  xdvipdfmx .


Surely such differences must be due to packages.
I've attached the .log file from one of my tests.
Maybe you can see a difference to what you use.

Using Babel with XeTeX is a potential source
of trouble, though not obviously so in this case.
