Thanks for proposal. I am on linux f8 running emacs 22.1.1 It
"understands" unicode but I had a lack of fonts. Since my message, I
installed intlfonts and I get a kind of display: I can see devanagari
script but no ligatures at all! Are there some "good" international
fonts for emacs?

I use to use scim but it does not work properly with emacs: some scripts
are working, some others are not working. Worse: within a writing, some
characters are displayed, some others are not.

It is a bit confusing....
