Ah, I see what you mean -- a minimal example tells 1000 words :)
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage{fontspec}
\begin{document}
\fontspec{Code2000}
\verb*|a b| should produce \verb|a␣b|
\end{document}
If anyone has a solution now I'll add it to xltxtra straight away;
otherwise I'll fix the problem myself at some stage in the future...
