This conversion can also happen when XeTeX fails to find one of the  
document's fonts. As a fall-back XeTeX then chooses the TeX CM fonts,  
which you probably have in PostScript Type 1 form installed. At least  
this is my interpretation why CM fonts get converted. Their dates  
correspond with the dates when such failures occurred.
