[XeTeX] I can't include a gif image

Alchemy Mindworks' Graphic Workshop program will do most conversions between 
image formats:

It's cheap and apparently works OK on Mac and Linux as well as Windows (I 
can only vouch for the last).

Not yet – probably never since MS Losedos comes without sensible PDF
frameworks. But there is, probably, software to convert GIF to PDF,
PNG, JPEG, or BMP. These formats are all supported by xdvipdfmx.
