[XeTeX] using ConTeXt with XeTeX ?

The "k" suffix just indicates that some of the web2c/kpathsea-based  
extensions -parse-first-line, -file-line-error, or -src-specials have  
been enabled in your configuration (texmf.cnf, I expect). I don't  
think this matters in your case; that's not what is causing your  
problem.

(BTW, this same behavior is seen with TeX/TeXk, pdfTeX/pdfTeXk, etc.;  
it's not a XeTeX invention.)

Did you try turning off MKTEXTFM in your configuration? IIRC, that's  
probably where the time is being spent.
