For an OpenType Arabic font such as Scheherazade, you need to specify  
the proper script behavior, otherwise the OpenType engine doesn't  
know which features to apply:

\TeXXeTstate = 1
\font\farsi = "Scheherazade:script=arab" at 18pt
\farsi
\noindent\beginR
....your persian text goes here....

\end
