I unzipped beta 5 into my texmf-dist tree (overwriting
the old pdfpages files) and now my original error is
gone but the new error is:
! LaTeX Error: File `ppxetex.def' not found.
I'm not familiar with TeX's internal workings, or what
this file is, or where it is supposed to come from.
Google knows nothing about it, apparently.
I attached a log. I'm not sure if the log indicates
that the problem was with the everyshi package, but
the package seems to have been unchanged since 2001,
according to CTAN, and I am using TeXLive 2007.
And thanks for the quick reply.
