Well, to be more specific it went away with the 1918 reform, and is
occasionally used today when people want text to sound archaic. Since
most common fonts do not include it, in actual text it is usually
conveyed by placing "ъ" where it should be, but since real knowledge
about pre-reform spelling is rare, it's usually where it shouldn't
really be. :)
