Depending what editor you're using, it may well have a command to  
comment a whole selected block; TeXShop has "Comment"  and  
"Uncomment" in the Format menu, for example.

If you're using (xe)latex, I believe there are several packages that  
provide "comment" or similar environments that you can use to hide  
whole blocks of material. E.g., see
