[XeTeX] footnotes with opentype superscript, and bibtex with xetex (quotes and hyphens)

I've always used something like

\newfontfamily\fnmarkstyle[VerticalPosition=Superior]{Hoefler Text}
\def\@makefnmark{\hbox{\fnmarkstyle\@thefnmark}}

and that makes the fnmark move a bit to the right, but that aside, I  
can't imagine a footnote immediately following a closing quote to  
ever look good ;-)

BTW: With Adobe Garamond Premier Pro it works even without redefining  
\@makefnmark, so it seems to be related to some property of Hoefler  
Text.
