[XeTeX] XeTeX and MiKTeX

>Has anyone on the lists had success blending MiKTeX with XeTeX? 
I am not using Windows, but I assume that the average MiKTeX user is using
WinEdt (http://www.winedt.com/) and so he/she wants to be able to use XeTeX
from within WinEdt, if this assumption is correct, I would like to let you know how
I merged XeTeX with MikTeX when a friend of mine asked me to do so. 

First or all, I used the TeXLive binaries. I created the folder TeXLive under "Program Files"
and there I copied the basic files of TeXLive. Then I created inside TeXLive the folders
tex/xelatex and tex/latex. In the first folder I copied all files one finds in the XeTeX
svn repository (http://scripts.sil.org/svn-view/xetex/TRUNK/texmf/tex/xelatex/) and
in the second I copied the the contents of the corresponding folder of the MikTeX
installation. Then I rehashed the system by entering the following command in
a command shell/term:

\progra~1\texlive\bin\win32\mktexlsr

Next I manually created the format file (my friend uses only XeLaTeX and frankly I 
do think most people do use only some version of LaTeX) by
entering a command like the following one:

cd \progra~1\texlive\texmf\web2c
\progra~1\texlive\bin\win32\xetex -ini -etex -jobname=xelatex latex.ltx

Now, one needs to donwload the latest edition of WinEdt as this version supports
Unicode files (i.e., one can use it to create of modify UTF-8 files). Then one has
to configure WinEdt. Since I did not have much time to check things out, I replaced
the functionality of pdfLaTeX with the functionality of XeLaTeX (I think that if one uses
XeLaTeX, pdfLaTeX is almost useless!). There is a option panel one has to choose in
order to do the modifications. In the command option one has to give the full path of the
xetex binary. That's all. This worked perfectly for my friend and he is now a happy
XeTeX user!
