Nope, for two reasons: (a) the XeTeX i-installer doesn't contain the  
fontspec code that contains the problem (the release was never  
officially made...I'm a bit busy...) so you'll only get this if you  
go through svn; and (b) even if you did have fontspec 1.12 you  
wouldn't see the problem because Gerben's TeX distribution contains  
the Latin Modern fonts. The problem arises for (older) distributions  
that do not have the Latin Modern OpenType fonts somewhere; e.g.,
   $ kpsewhich lmroman5-bold.otf
   /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/fonts/opentype/public/lm/ 
lmroman5-bold.otf

It's the combination of an old distribution without Latin Modern and  
XeTeX I figured would be rather rare; apparently not.
