[XeTeX] slow typesetting with fontspec

Yes, that would be the way to go.
(Or \newfontfamily, if acronyms might happen in bold or italic  
contexts.)

The technical reason why it was slowing down is that every time
\addfontfeature is used, it simply appends the feature on the list of
previous features the font is using. There's no clever re-arranging  
going
on (at this stage) to simply adjust the letterspacing of the font.
