On my Debian box it wouldn't make a difference. However, I just tried
this with a nonsensical value, ie 'make web2cdir=foo xetex', and that
way 'foo' seems to end up in the right place in the binary. So yes, this
looks like a good workaround for the time being. The real test is, of
course, to use it on a Gentoo box, were the current system fails.
