So that is what you call a brief look at something ;) Was very enlightening though..thanks! I am sorry that you've invested time into other peoples mistakes (the creator of this the arrow.pfb file). So maybe I'll just edit the *.pfb itself for my usage. I' am so glad that all this confusing (although powerfull in some circumstances) stuff with wirtual fonts, *.afm, *.mf, *.tfm etc pp. files comes to an end with the native support of OTF, TTF (...) font files!

I'll guess if you make your application entirely backward compatible, it would end up being very slow - so I am not expecting this at all...
