[XeTeX] A question regarding 7bits versus 8 bits encoding and fonts

Why can't you use:

	%\input 8bitdefscopy.tex
	\font\rom="Times-Roman" at 16pt
	\rom éàüîê
	éàüîê

Or, if you prefer to have something that looks more like Computer  
Modern:

	\font\rom="LMRoman17-Regular" at 16pt


XeTeX is Unicode oriented. It can't easily use a font that is weirdly  
encoded ...
