Oh, sorry, I was using \fontspec as an example only.
If you want to set the default fonts, use \setromanfont,  
\setsansfont, \setmonofont instead.
(All with the same syntax as \fontspec.)

These are the equivalent of
   \renewcommand\rmdefault{...}\normalfont
, whereas \fontspec is
   \fontfamily{...}\selectfont
, in NFSS terminology.

Please let me know if you find any further problems with the package;  
or any other suggestions, for that matter, if you continue to use it.
