I noticed that, and there's even a comment in the code mentioning  
that it should be wired up with fontenc (which would then provide  
compatibility out of the box with xunicode since the control  
sequences are the same).

Anyway, I just sent Donald an email on the matter. Just wait and see,  
I guess.
