This is a good example of why I've been arguing that being able to  
write out a font's characteristics from w/in XeTeX (or using some  
external tool) and then modify them and read them back in would be a  
useful capability.

Being able to encapsulate the specific characteristics of a font when  
archiving a job is another reason.
