Just FYI - it should also work to say "--papersize=a4:landscape", if  
you don't want to check the exact dimensions. (And likewise, of  
course, for other named sizes.)

BTW, running:
     xdv2pdf -help
will give you a brief usage message that mentions the paper sizes  
known to the driver.
