Hi Bernd,

Probably you have already solved your problem, but since I just read 
you message I wanted to let you know that I have a simple macro doing 
partly what you want for typesetting Arabic or Persian poetry. 
Unfortunately these macros are not yet a "poetry environment" but 
they solve the problem.

Please let me know if you have ant other questions regarding the use 
of the macros.
