[XeTeX] Protruding Characters?

To anyone on this list who has a clue,

With typesetting in LaTeX is used to use the cs \pdfprotrudechars=1 to
protrude certain character into the right margin. With TeX, I think
this is the protcode. When using the LaTeX command with XeLaTeX the
command doesn't work, i.e. it is an unknown cs.
Can anyone tell whether protruding characters is possible. This would
be specifically interesting with the use of MM fonts with a width axis
that can be changed.

Regards,
Robert.
