[XeTeX] more compatibility fonts

Hi all.

While hanging out on the tex-fonts list, I was pointed to a release of
the URW/PCL fonts: <http://www.artifex.com/downloads/>

While I was first distracted by the t1 versions, I got to thinking... are
the .ttf versions suitable for use with XeTeX? I thought they would be
especially useful for "legacy" typesetting, used with the .tfms and fds/
typescripts that already live in any given TeX distribution. (and
OpenType is simply an extension of TrueType, and Mac OS X handles ttf
files with aplomb)

I performed some experiments against the texmf.tetex/fonts/tfm/adobe tree
in gwTeX, and had decidedly mixed results. Although some worked
swimmingly (like all four Times fonts, in both 8r and 8y encodings), most
of them were unable to find the named font inside the TTF file. Some
didn't complain but silently failed to embed the font.
Others complained:
[1.1
*** font pncri8r (NewCenturySchlbk-Italic: file '') not found ]

This is an interesting failure because the URW font is called
CenturySchL-Ital. (Sounds like the Adobe PostScript names are embedded in
the .tfm files somewhere, but I couldn't find them with tftopl or strings.)

So. Does anyone have any ideas how to proceed with minimal impact to
existing files?

If anyone wants to give it a try, there's a mini tree at:
