This indicates you have Fink installed (or at least Fink's tree, in  
/sw, takes precedence over /usr/local where Gerben's and Jonathan's  
software is installed). Could this be the cause for your problem? I've  
been using happily XeTeX 0.88 since yesterday night with no problem so  
far, and I don't have Fink.
