I still prefer Alan Hoenig's solution in _TeX Unbound_ where he uses 
the ``L''-small cap ``A'' ligature in the fancy Bernhard Modern can 
calls it the ``most typographically pure rendering of the LaTeX logo 
every''.

Even w/o such a ligature, using a small cap ``A'' makes making the 
LaTeX logo much easier when using rich fonts.
