hm, if you take font as an example, and look at what tex docs are available 
on the web, you'll notice that the average user does not use much of the 
font tree ... this is why errors in there often go unnoticed (on the past 
i've run into errors that puzzled me because i assumed that those fonts 
were used frequently); so the abswer may be

Of course, many do, but they don't notice

(the same is true for some bugs in pdftex -)
