I do *not* know that goes on with \ref command, but it *appears* that it
does something like \theenumi which is defined in
$TEXMF/tex/latex/base/article.cls as \@arabic\c@enumi. Therefore changing
\labelenumi does not affect the way the counter is printed in \ref.
Can someone confirm this?
