I have long used tabls.sty
For anyone who makes tables, I strongly recommend it - just say

  \usepackage{tabls}

and the look of your tables greatly improves.

I just discovered 'booktab.sty' which is for "professional looking
tables". I think he's onto very interesting stuff.

Both tabls and booktab are standard equipment in teTeX.

My question is: Are booktab and tabls internally consistent, or will
they foul up in conjunction?
