I've been busy all week on TeX Live 2025 builds at Utah, and my work
is summarized here, in an annual report that began in 2016:
https://www.math.utah.edu/pub/texlive-utah-2025/
I have several more systems with build failures, but I'm not
documenting them at that site just yet, in the hope that I can find
workarounds
So far, the new site reports 13 successful builds, and one failed
build.
A new feature this year is incorporation of lists of packages that
need to be installed on various O/S distribution before a TeX Live
build can be expected to be possible. Asymptote in particular has a
large number of dependent packages that are not needed by the rest of
TeX Live.
As of yesterday, I am also testing a new release of Asymptote, version
2.96; the current version in TeX Live 2025 is 2.88. I'm building both
versions of Asymptote for now, with two executables, asy-2.88 and
asy-2.96, included in the binary bundle, with asy a symbolic link to
whichever of the two has the most features in the --version report.
