Not only with BSD's, but also here on Debian where /bin/sh is dash.

Configuration *requires* bash now, the first time since at least 6 years
- I had /bin/sh as CONFIG_SHELL in our Debian makefile and this time is
the first time that it broke.

So please make sure to run configure under bash.
