Hmm, hard to say for exotic archs. On Debian it is there everywhere,
but who knows for some old solaris.

I just realized that we might anyway drop the shell script in favor
of a perl script I am working on, for 2015. That way we can unify 
a bit more windows and unix and have also a good implementation of
mktexupd with module usability.

So might not be worth the trouble.
