Karl: I can't duplicate this with fresh installs of Centos5
(fully updated) and TL2014 with the dvisvgm binary replaced by my
--with-libgs build of dvisvgm on Centos6. ldd shows that libstdc++
and libgs aren't loaded initially; but if there are Postscript
specials, the system libgs.so is loaded dynamically and works
normally. Also, if --libgs=<non-existent> is used as option to
dvisvgm, Postscript processing is disabled but ordinary processing
continues.
