I must admit that the discussion is way over my head, but this question is easy to answer: I have written a module for ConTeXt that can retrieve and typeset data from sql databases. For this, luatex needs to load the lua sqlite3 library. Works wonderfully on linux, but on OS X only when I build an unstripped luatex binary.
