    That is fine. It is only there that the build process creates
    the necessary links.

Even more precisely, the symlinks themselves get installed fine,
regardless.  Those target files are there only because some people
complained about dangling symlinks being installed by make install.
I should probably make all the target files be zero bytes so people
don't think they mean anything.
