r17971 builds and runs on FreeBSD branches from 5 to 8, i386 and
amd64.

Checklist:

* xz ok;
* new xindy-2.4-pre2 compiles and runs fine;
* asymptote-1.93 builds and runs fine, incl. 3D stuff;
* new pdftex creates a PDF with those test files; the graphics in the
  resulting PDF, however, does not look exactly like it was in
  group-direct.pdf (if that's what is expected):

* ptex ok;
* gmake check ok.
